What To Do When You Have A Clogged Or Blocked Sink

Blocked or Clogged Sink

It is common to experience a clogging in your pipes or fixtures at one point or another. You might experience the slow draining sink or the sink that won’t drain at all. If these are problems you are experiencing then you have a clogged or blocked sink.

The build up of dirt or debris such as food, hair, grease and soap residue on your kitchen sink or bathroom sink can result in clogged or blocked sink. This can cause anxiety and stress, primarily when you need your sink the most. If repairs are not made in a timely manner, more potential problems may occur.  Clearing a blocked or clogged sink can be achieved quite easily with these steps.

Boiled hot water

Pouring hot boiling water can be effective in dissolving a clog in your drain pipe. We recommend you boil water in a large kettle or pot and pour it right into the drain. The hot water method should only be used on metal pipes and you should never use this method on PVC pipes.

Baking soda and vinegar

Add a tablespoon of baking soda with ¼ cup vinegar directly into your drain. Wait until 30 minutes to 1 hours to allow for the chemicals to compound with one another. After the waiting period, pour hot boiling water into the drain. This will help remove grease and debris from your pipes.

Chemical drain cleaner

Chemical drain cleaners are often effective in clearing away debris and build up however it is advised to be careful when using such sink and drain cleaners as the chemicals can actually be very dangerous if not used correctly.
